Cyber Essentials

We offer self-assessment services as a Cyber Essentials Scheme (CES) Certification Body and are recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre’s Cyber Essentials Partner, IASME.

What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed and industry supported scheme designed to reduce the levels of cyber security risk in its supply chains. As a recognised Certification Body (CB), we can provide a full range of CES and IASME services, including self-assessment, assisted services, CES PLUS and IASME assessments.

Understanding Cyber Essentials

The Cyber Essentials scheme defines a set of five technical controls that are independently assessed before your business can achieve Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials PLUS certification:

=

Boundary firewalls and internet gateways

=

Secure configuration

=

Access control

=

Malware protection

=

Patch management

Presuming these five controls are properly implemented and maintained, organisations can operate with a baseline level of assurance that their systems are protected from the most prevalent online and cyber threats.

Cyber Essentials Certification

A focused set of technical controls to provide cost effective, basic cyber security protection from the most prevalent forms of threat coming from the internet.

Cyber Essentials PLUS Certification

A natural progression from the independently verified self-assessment assurance activities implemented as part of Cyber Essentials. Cyber Essentials PLUS offers a higher level of assurance of your organisation’s cyber security defences through a range of internal and external tests of your network and computers.

u

Did You Know?

The UK Government made the Cyber Essentials scheme mandatory for central government contracts advertised after 1 October 2014, which involve handling personal information and providing certain ICT products and services.

4Secure Cyber Essentials Services

Cyber Essentials provides organisations of all sizes and in all sectors with a set of technical controls that provide cost-effective, basic cyber security protection. Implementation of these controls can significantly reduce your cyber security risk profile.

Achieving CES certification for your business is a great steppingstone and can help you achieve certification against standards such as IASME, ISO27001 and PCI DSS in the future.

As an IASME and Cyber Essentials Scheme Certification Body, we can offer a full range of services, including:

CES Self-Assessment

Self-Assessment is designed for organisations that possess the required in-house skills and expertise to complete the self-assessment questionnaire in accordance with the Cyber Essentials Scheme requirements.

The entire process can be conducted with ease via our secure, online portal. Your submission will be verified by one of our Cyber Essentials Assessors to confirm the requirements of the scheme have been met prior to awarding your certification. They will also provide clear and concise feedback and respond to any concerns you may have.

Remember, Cyber Essentials Scheme certification does not remove all cyber security risk. It is not designed to address more advanced, targeted attacks and hence organisations facing these threats will need to implement additional measures as part of their security strategy.

CES Assisted Assessment

Some of the Cyber Essentials self-assessment questions can be difficult to understand if you do not have a technical IT background or you have a complex company structure.

But, don’t worry that’s what our 4Secure trained assessors are here for. They will be able to guide you through the assessment questions, nurturing you through the process. We will always explain to you how these questions relate to your company and what steps you need to take in order to achieve certification.

CES PLUS Assessment

Cyber Essentials PLUS certification provides a more robust assessment of your organisation’s controls and considers how effectively they are implemented and maintained to help defend against Internet-borne threats.

The aim is to identify opportunistically exploitable vulnerabilities within your organisation’s internet-facing infrastructure and end-point devices, which have a high-level of exposure to potential hackers with a relatively low level of skill.

The full CES PLUS testing scope can be found within the scheme’s Illustrative Test Specification. The core areas of focus are:

=

External Facing Website & Services

=

Boundary & Firewall Protection

=

Internal Network Vulnerabilities

=

End User Devices

=

Access & Privilege Management

Our Cyber Essentials PLUS Assessment services include certification fees, internal and external vulnerability scans, and on-site assessment and consultancy advice.

IASME Assessment

The IASME Standard was developed during a government funded project to create a cyber security standard which would be an affordable and achievable alternative to the international standard, ISO 27001.

The International Standard (ISO27001) is comprehensive but extremely challenging and often costly for small companies to achieve and maintain. The IASME standard was created along the same lines as the ISO27001 to offer SMEs an effective and affordable way of demonstrating their cyber security competencies while offering assurances that they can properly protect customers’ data.

Our team of IASME consultants can guide you through the IASME Standard Self Assessment process in conjunction with CES Self Assessment certification. We recommend familiarising yourself with IASME requirements beforehand to assess your suitability.

Without the extraordinarily generous support from 4Secure the scheme would not have succeeded in delivering the scale of impact to Herefordshire schools and children that we were able to, at the time when it was critical to do so.

From the outset 4Secure became a critical partner and were always willing to go the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed – and more! Their professionalism, industry-leading capability and can-do attitude was invaluable and made a huge difference to over 300 children in 45 schools across Herefordshire.

We are very grateful to have had the privilege of their support and partnership on this scheme. They should be proud of what they have done to make a difference in Herefordshire.
